Invisalign Q&A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a teeth straightening system that uses clear, custom-made aligners to gently shift your teeth into their ideal position.

Designed to fit snugly over your teeth, Invisalign is virtually invisible. Every two weeks, you transition to a new aligner as your teeth slowly move. You continue to change aligners until your teeth reach the desired position.

This innovative system offers precision straightening without the discomfort of metal brackets and wires. And, since Invisalign aligners are removable, there are no food restrictions, and it’s easy to maintain proper dental hygiene during treatment.

Invisalign provides effective orthodontic treatment for both teenagers and adults.

Why do I need Invisalign?

Invisalign can correct twisted, overlapped, and crooked teeth. When teeth are misaligned, it interferes with proper chewing, strains the jaw, and adversely affects both your dental hygiene and self-confidence.

Your teeth can become misaligned because of several reasons. Sometimes, your mouth is too small, which leads to teeth crowding and shifting. Other times, your upper and lower jaw sizes can be different or misshaped, leading to overbites and underbites.

While these are usually inherited traits, they can also be caused by:

  • Thumb-sucking or pacifier use
  • Gingivitis
  • Facial injury
  • Pressure on the gums and teeth
  • Poorly fitting dental crowns or fillings

If you have any of these issues, talk to Dr. Lee to see if Invisalign is right for you.

What can I expect during Invisalign treatment?

During your first appointment, Dr. Lee uses a dental scanning system to create 3D images that precisely capture the placement of your teeth. He then works with you to map out your personalized treatment plan.

Your personalized treatment plan outlines:

  • Exactly how your teeth will be shifted
  • The duration of your Invisalign treatments
  • A sneak peek of your new and improved smile

For best results, keep your Invisalign aligners in for 20-22 hours a day. You can remove them to brush, floss, and eat.

While you wear your Invisalign aligners, you’ll see Dr. Lee every six weeks so he can monitor your progress. Treatment usually takes 6-24 months, depending on how much movement is needed to straighten your teeth.
